From voice to text

Not much to learn.

  1. 01

    Choose your shortcut

Pick a key that feels natural. Keep your cursor where you want the words to go.

  2. 02

    Hold it and speak

Say what you want to write. You don’t need to open a separate document or switch apps.

  3. 03

    Let go. Keep going.

Sotto transcribes on your Mac and inserts the text into the app you’re using. Read it over, then carry on.

A MESSAGE, WITHOUT THE TYPING

Let’s take a little more time with this. I’ll send you my thoughts in the morning.

Keep up with your thoughts.

That reply, that first draft, that idea you don’t want to lose. Say it where you’re already working, then carry on.

A few details

Before you start.

Is it really free?

Yes. Sotto Light is free to download and use. No subscription, no credits to buy, and no paid tier.

Are there any usage limits?

No word allowance or monthly minutes. Dictate as often as you like; transcription runs on your Mac.

Do I need an account?

No. Install the app, download a speech model, and choose your shortcut.

Does my audio leave my Mac?

Your audio is transcribed on your Mac, not sent to a cloud AI provider. The text is inserted into the app you choose; that app’s own privacy rules still apply.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Download a speech model once during setup. After that, dictation runs locally, even with Wi-Fi switched off.

Which languages can I use?

Language support depends on the speech model you choose. Settings includes English and multilingual options; check the selected model’s supported languages.

What permissions does it need?

Microphone access to hear you, and Accessibility access to use the recording shortcut and insert text into other apps.

Can I change the shortcut?

Yes. Pick a preset or record a supported key combination in Settings.

Give your keyboard a break.

Try your next message with your voice.
